... Winter Storm Watch in effect from late Friday night through
Sunday morning...
The National Weather Service in State College has issued a Winter
Storm Watch... which is in effect from late Friday night through
Sunday morning. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until
6 am EST Friday.
Snow showers and locally heavier squalls will become more
widespread this afternoon and continue right through tonight.
Additional snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches will occur by
daybreak Friday... with locally higher amounts on the ridge tops
and west facing slopes of the Laurel Highlands.
In addition... west to northwest winds will gust between 25 and
30 mph at times and combine with the snow squalls to produce
brief periods when the visibility could drop to just a few
hundred yards.
Snow accumulations of six inches or more are possible from late
Friday night through Saturday night in association with an
approaching storm system moving east through the Ohio Valley. Sleet
and freezing rain may mix in at times across the Laurel Highlands.
There is still some uncertainty with regard to the exact track of
the system... which will ultimately influence storm total snowfall
amounts and precipitation types.
A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow will cause
travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited
visibilities... and use caution while driving. Motorists should be
especially cautious on bridges and overpasses... where slippery
spots develop first. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio or your
favorite source of weather information for the latest updates.
